World number 35 Caroline Garcia is enjoying one of her better seasons on tour in 2022 with two WTA titles won at the Bad Homburg Open and Poland Open so far. The former world number four can be a world-beater on any surface when everything clicks into gear but a three-set defeat to Alize Cornet in the first round of the Canada Masters last week muddies the waters of this already tight clash with Petra Martic. The world number 56 is also in some of her better form in recent years after recently winning her second WTA title at the Lausanne Open on clay, her favoured surface, where she beat Garcia in the semi-finals. The 31-year-old has snuck into the main draw as a lucky loser after Anhelina Kalinina beat her in qualifying but that could make her dangerous her on a second wind. Garcia leads this head-to-head 3-1 and 2-0 on hardcourts but Martic’s recent win makes this a really tough call. Take Garcia to win at least a set and leave the winner up to chance.
