20-year-old Carole Monnet set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 249th this week after some decent campaigns on the ITF circuit and she will break that again after receiving a wildcard to her Grand Slam debut. She faces a tough competitor here, though, in former top 20 star Karolina Muchova. The 25-year-old is still on her return from a long injury lay-off but she has impressed with victory over Leylah Fernandez and at the Miami Open and some recent tight defeats on clay to Belinda Bencic and Petra Martic. Muchova is at her least effective on the clay but still likely to overpower Monnet on the youngster’s debut. Back the Czech to win in straight sets.
