THE PREDICTION

World number one Carlos Alcaraz and number two Novak Djokovic will meet in the Cincinnati Open final one month on from their incredible five-set battle at Wimbledon, eventually going Alcaraz’ way for a second Grand Slam title. The 20-year-old is preparing to defend a major title for the first time at the US Open in two weeks but he has looked a lot more unsteady since coming to hardcourts from grass, with Saturday’s comeback over Hubert Hurkacz his sixth three-setter on the spin. 36-year-old Djokovic will be hell-bent on avenging his defeat to his oven ready replacement set to dominate Men’s tennis for the foreseeable future. The Serb has not dropped a set all week with impressive displays against tough foes including former Cincy champion Alexander Zverev on Saturday, backing up a consummate performance over Taylor Fritz. A first meeting on hardcourts probably just about favours Djokovic, especially at this moment in time as Alcaraz struggles for consistency, but all three of their previous meetings have seen sets go both ways. Back Djokovic to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance or consider the three-set option here.
