World number 11 Cam Norrie is an excellent all-courter with an ever-improving game that could become better-suited to the clay one day. The 26-year-old lost to Alex de Minaur in three sets at the Barcelona Open last time out but after a break last week he should be in better shape for Madrid. Norrie won the third ATP title of his career back in February at the Delray Beach Open on his favoured hardcourt surface before finishing runner-up to Rafael Nadal at the Mexican Open. World number 73 Soonwoo Kwon also has a fast-paced game that could enjoy the conditions in Madrid and he qualified well over the weekend with a straight-sets victory over Ugo Humbert. The Korean has beaten Benoit Paire twice on clay in recent weeks and three-set defeats to Carlos Alcaraz and Ramos-Vinolas put him at a good working level coming into this second meeting with Norrie. The Brit won their first meeting in straight sets at the 2019 Atlanta Open but this could come a lot closer. Take Norrie to win outright.
