THE PREDICTION
World number nine Cam Norrie is yet to drop a set this week in New York but he was tested by Joao Sousa in a tight one on Thursday. The 26-year-old is at home on a US hardcourt as a former college star, with three of his four ATP titles coming on North American hardcourts from Los Cabos, Indian Wells and Delray Beach. Norrie reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon back in July and he has a significant chance of emulating that with the likes of Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas out of the draw, although he will have to beat Rafael Nadal for a first time later in the draw. World number 33 Holger Rune was handed a walkover through to the third round after John Isner unfortunately broke his wrist and that may hinder the Dane more than it helps against the finely tuned seventh seed. Norrie has beaten Rune twice this season on clay, where the teenager is at home, and more recently this month at the Cincinnati Open. Both matches have gone to three sets, though, so backing Norrie to win outright looks the sensible call.
