World number 10 Cam Norrie is as solid as a rock against players outside the top 20 and he showed that once again on Friday with an excellent three-set victory over an impressive Marton Fucsovics. The 26-year-old struggled in his first match on the clay this season with an early exit to specialist Albert Ramos-Vinolas at the Monte-Carlo Open last week but he reached two ATP finals on the surface last season, finishing runner-up to Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Lyon Open and Ramos-Vinolas again at the Estoril Open. World number 25 Alex de Minaur will be the much fresher of the two when they take to court late on Friday after Lloyd Harris retired from the second set of their round of 16 match earlier today. The 23-year-old is probably the better player on the clay overall but there will be few secrets here in a first meeting against each other as Norrie and De Minaur have played doubles together on numerous occasions over the years.
This could end up a thriller if both bring their best but backing Norrie, whose impeccable athleticism should see him recover well from his three-setter with Fucsovics, to win at least a set is the sensible way to avoid picking a winner.
