World number 69 Brandon Nakashima could be set for a strong week at the San Diego Open as a Californian native who will be well-backed after impressing this season. The 21-year-old should by rights be ranked well inside the top 40 after reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon but points were controversially banned at SW19. Nakashima’s two tour finals were reached last season at ATP 250 events similar to San Diego and he reached back-to-back quarter-finals last at the Atlanta Open and Los Cabos Open recently, as well as reaching the third round at the US Open.
