World number 22 Grigor Dimitrov came back from a set down against Cam Norrie on Monday in a tight and well-fought opener at Queen’s. The former world number three won here in 2014 but his most recent of eight ATP titles came at the ATP Finals in 2017 in what was by far the best year of his career. The 31-year-old always has the potential to contend for any tournament he enters but matches like this against world number 29 Botic van de Zandschulp are often where he slips up. 26-year-old Van de Zandschulp overcame a spirited Paul Jubb on Tuesday to make up for a poor start to his grass swing on home soil at the Libema Open last week. The Dutchman is up to a career-high after a thoroughly impressive rise over the last 12 months and he has the game to excel on grass with some more experience.
Dimitrov beat Van de Zandschulp in three sets at the start of this season in Melbourne and he remains the favourite after a strong showing against Cam Norrie.
