20-year-old Lorenzo Musetti set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 30th last month after beating Carlos Alcaraz in an epic Hamburg Open final to win his first ATP title. The Italian was in searing form in the early part of last season but it took the best part of 12 months to see his confidence return after losing to Novak Djokovic from two sets up in the round of 16 of Roland-Garros. Musetti played well this weekend to qualify for the main draw of the Cincinnati Masters for a first time but he has yet to truly transfer his clear potential on clay to a hardcourt and this looks a tough opener. Former world number 12 Borna Coric lost in the first round of the Canada Masters last week to fellow Croat Marin Cilic, to whom he now trails 8-0 in a horrific head-to-head, but recently the 25-year-old’s results have been improving. It is still a long way back for the 25-year-old after a year away from the tour but backing him to earn at least a set in this first meeting with Musetti looks the shrewd way to lean in these conditions.
