27-year-old Enzo Couacaud impressed on his Wimbledon debut last month in a five-set defeat to John Isner and the Frenchman beat Jan-Lennard Struff in qualifying this week to make his US Open debut. This is a tricky opener for Borna Coric after his incredible success in Cincinnati as he will once again have to play as the man to beat in matches, rather than the recovering underdog. The Croat is in form enough to win in straight sets here but Couacaud has already proven a tough man to beat. The sensible pick is Coric outright but the shrewd move could be either taking at least a tiebreak or for Coaucaud to snatch at least a set.
