Former world number 12 Borna Coric is looking for a second win on tour since returning from a year-long absence but he has taken sets from Alexander Zverev at the Miami Open and Jannik Sinner on clay at the Monte-Carlo Open. The 25-year-old won his first ATP title on clay at the Grand Prix Hassan II back in 2017 but he has an excellent record at Masters level, with a run to the quarter-finals of Monte-Carlo his best on this surface. World number 77 Dusan Lajovic qualified well this week in Madrid after another tough start to the season with a 5-13 record 2022. The 31-year-old could benefit from having to qualify with back-to-back wins rare for him in recent times and he should be good for a set here with his last three defeats coming in three. Coric beat Lajovic in straight sets just before his injury lay-off at last season’s Rotterdam Open and the Croat is also likely to take at least a set, making three sets a decent option here.
