THE PREDICTION
World number 15 Diego Schwartzman has lost in the third round in each of his last two appearances at Wimbledon on what is by far his weakest surface. The 29-year-old is at his best on the clay, where he reached the semi-finals at Roland-Garros in 2020 before defeat to eventual champion Rafael Nadal, and he is yet to win on grass this season with early exits at Queen’s and the Eastbourne international. This could be an intriguing fortnight for former world number 12 Borna Coric as the Croat continues his return from a year-long absence due to injury. The 25-year-old is also more comfortable away from the grass but he won a Challenger event last week in a promising sign of recovery and he shares a finely-poised 2-2 head-to-head record with Schwartzman.
The Argentine has the toe more recent meetings, though, and with sets likely for both players backing the 12th seed to win at least two seems a suitably cautious option. If you can take both players to win a set here and leave the winner up to chance instead, do so.
