World number 275 Borna Coric could be something of a sleeper hit in his section of the draw as the former world number 12 comes into Roland-Garros on a protected ranking. The 25-year-old spent a year away from the tour recovering from injury but he has impressed in his return with solid performances in defeat against Alexander Zverev, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Jannik Sinner. The Croat has taken sets in five valiant defeats so far and it is hard to see world number 88 Carlos Taberner taking this first meeting in three despite favouring the clay. The 24-year-old set his career-high ATP world ranking this week after some decent results on clay, including stunning Sebastian Korda at the Barcelona Open for a career-best win. If the Spaniard can stay with Coric over five sets he should be able to outlast him but taking Coric to win at least a set, perhaps at even two, seems a reasonable risk here.
