THE PREDICTION

This promises to be another thrilling match between two former Grand Slam champions, and former world number fours, aiming to get back to their previous heights. World number 31 Andreescu backed-up an excellent victory over Emma Raducanu in the first round with a brilliant comeback over seventh seed Maria Sakkari on Friday and the Canadian finally looks to be coming back into the fearsome player she was in 2019 when she won the US Open alongside two Masters titles. 24-year-old Kenin upset 28th seed Anhelina Kalinina in straight sets on Friday to suggest she too is finally rediscovering her once daunting determination on court. The 2020 Australian Open champion has spent much of the last few seasons in the wilderness with myriad issues both on and off the court but she took eventual champion Elena Rybakina to two tiebreaks at Indian Wells last time out before defeat and back-to-back wins here in Miami is hugely encouraging.

Andreescu beat Kenin in straight sets in the semi-finals of the Canada Masters back in 2019, on her way to the title on home soil, and the Canadian leads their head-to-head 2-1 at tour-level. Back Andreescu to earn at least a set here as the likelier of two very capable, still very vulnerable, winners and leave the result up to chance.
