BIANCA ANDREESCU
Former world number four Bianca Andreescu overcame Alison Riske in three sets on Friday in her third match back from a long injury lay-off. The 21-year-old burst onto the scene in 2019, winning two Masters titles at Indian Wells and the Canadian Open before a first Grand Slam title at the US Open but she has struggled with a raft of injuries since. Andreescu reached last season’s Miami Open final before retiring form the second set against Ash Barty.

World number eight Danielle Collins overcame an initially tricky challenge against the returning Monica Puig on Friday in her first match for a month since losing to Naomi Osaka in the quarter-finals of the Miami Open. The American number one finished runner-up to Ash Barty at the Australian Open back in January after a stunning campaign that included a win over Iga Swiatek. Collins won her first WTA title last season on clay at the Palermo Open.
THE PREDICTION
This could be the match of the round in a first meeting between two entertaining battlers. Bianca Andreescu certainly has the higher ceiling in terms of potential but she is still a hard player to back with confidence on her latest return from injury and Collins is almost entirely the opposite as a player who has absolutely maximised her ability to within an inch of its life. It would be a surprise to see Andreescu blast Collins in two sets, especially on a surface that possibly favours the American, so backing Collins to win at least a set looks the sensible move here.
