27-year-old Bernarda Pera is nearing breaking the top 40 for a first time on tour after claiming a 13th-straight victory in a tussle with Sofia Kenin on Thursday. The American has reached the final of her last three tournaments if you include the Thoreau Challenger two weeks ago and she has won both at tour level to claim her first two WTA titles. This looks a tough draw against world number 45 Liudmila Samsonova, though, as the Russian also brings a winning streak of eight matches into the semi-finals after winning her second WTA title at the Citi Open earlier this month. The 23-year-old is yet to drop a set this week, suggesting backing her to win at least one is a sensible option here, but she should be able to overpower Pera in key moments here. Pera’s streak is remarkable considering her last few seasons on tour and that makes this a really tricky call. Back Samsonova to win at least a set inside an accumulator or risk the outright as a one-off.
