World number 130 Bernarda Pera grabbed the best result of her season by beating the fifth seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich in straight sets on Thursday. The 27-year-old is yet to drop a set all week in Budapest after coming through the qualifiers cleanly and that kind of momentum will be tough to stop on her favourite surface. 21-year-old Elisabetta Cocciaretto is one win away from setting a new career-high WTA world ranking after overcoming Katerina Siniakova in three sets. The Italian is currently ranked at world number 118 but she has enjoyed some strong results on the ITF circuit this season. Both players have exceeded expectations in beating their previous opponents but Bernarda Pera’s experience should be able to see her edge this. A first meeting between the two leaves plenty up for debate, though, and taking the American to win at least a set is the suitably cautious call.
