World number 25 Beatriz Haddad-Maia is looking for a spot of respite as she brings a three-match losing streak into the Canada Masters, with her last victory coming in mid-June. The 26-year-old is still enjoying by far the year of her career so far, though, after claiming back-to-back titles at the Nottingham Open and Birmingham Classic on grass before a run to the semi-finals at the Eastbourne International was eventually halted by the eventual champion Petra Kvitova. World number 26 Martina Trevisan also claimed her maiden title this season at the Rabat Open on her favoured clay before a huge run to the semi-finals of Roland-Garros. The Italian is a tough customer on clay but she has little form away from her favoured surface, whilst Haddad-Maia’s penchant for grass this summer came as a surprise to her as much as anyone. The Brazilian could be backed to win outright in this first meeting on a hardcourt but with her level a little under par right now taking at least a set is the wise move.
