THE PREDICTION
This should be a fierce battle between world number 13 Beatriz Haddad-Maia and number 16 Madison Keys, both of whom impressed in Madrid before falling foul of eventual champion Iga Swiatek. 29-year-old Keys reached the semi-finals in Madrid with two hugely impressive wins over Ons Jabeur and Coco Gauff but she was well beaten by Swiatek, claiming just four games. 27-year-old Haddad-Maia came back from a set down to beat Xinyu Wang on Thursday, suggesting she is still struggling to find her very best level on favoured conditions, but the Brazilian took a set from Swiatek in an excellent display last week after stunning Maria Sakkari in straight sets. Haddad-Maia beat Keys in the group stages of the WTA Elite Trophy late last season, en-route to the title, but this rematch is a really tough call given Keys’ surprisingly good start to the clay swing. Back Haddad-Maia to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance as the Brazilian rarely goes down without a fight.
