World number 16 Beatriz Haddad-Maia is enjoying the best season of her career after wining her maiden and second WTA titles back-to-back on grass this summer and then finishing runner-up to Simona Halep at the Canada Masters. The Brazilian has struggled to match that intensity in recent tournaments despite making three quarter-finals on the spin but she still looks the fair favourite in this tough opener against Katerina Siniakova. 26-year-old Siniakova recently stunned Elena Rybakina from a set down to claim the third WTA title of her career at the Slovenia Open and she can certainly pounce in this first meeting with Haddad-Maia if the 11th seed is not at the races. This looks a suitable match to keep away from any accumulators but Haddad-Maia should, realistically, be reaching the second round here.
