THE PREDICTION
World number 40 Alison Riske overcame an impressive Viktorija Golubic on Saturday, beating the Swiss over three sets either side of a rain delay. The 31-year-old was a Nottingham Open finalist back in 2016 and she won the second of her three ATP titles at ‘s-Hertogenbosch, on grass, in 2019. Riske looks the fair favourite to win this first encounter with Beatriz Haddad-Maia as the more experienced on this surface but the Brazilian has found some excellent form this week, stunning the top seed Maria Sakkari in the quarter-finals before overwhelming Tereza Martincova on Saturday. The 26-year-old will break the top 40 for the first time no matter the outcome here but Riske will take some beating. Three sets seems likely here and that could be a suitable alternative to picking a winner from this tight contest but the suitably cautious move would be taking Riske to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable champions.
