THE PREDICTION

Former world number two Barbora Krejcikova is still looking for a consistent run of performances since returning from injury earlier this season and she has drawn another short straw here after a an early exit to Karolina Pliskova in Toronto. The 26-year-old won the latest of her three WTA titles just over a year ago at the Prague Open and whilst her singles level is currently well under par the Czech is still world number one in doubles alongside Katerina Siniakova, with whom she has won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this season. 25-year-old Veronika Kudermetova comes into Cincinnati at a career-high WTA world ranking of 18th after her strongest season on tour by far, with three runners-up finishes so far in 2022. The Russian beat Ons Jabeur in Washington two weeks ago and whilst a three-set defeat to Ajla Tomljanovic was a slight shock last week in Toronto she still looks a level above this current version of Krejcikova. Back Kudermetova to win outright here, or at least a set inside an accumulator.
