World number 27 Barbora Krejcikova beat in-form Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets on Monday for a hugely encouraging result in what has been, at least in the singles side of her career, a tough season. The 26-year-old recently completed the career golden slam alongside Katerina Siniakova by winning the US Open Women’s Doubles title but she is seeking to take back-to-back wins for only the third time since returning from injury in May, perhaps too early as she tried and failed to defend her French Open title. World number 56 Marta Kostyuk is a tough challenger, though, and she will one day be tougher still as a potential star of the future. The 20-year-old overcame in-form Bernarda Pera in three sets on Monday and she has enjoyed some promising performances in recent months after initially looking strong at the Australian Open back in January. Kostyuk stunned Krejcikova in three sets in their first meeting at the Eastbourne International back in June but the Czech should be more of a match here in these conditions. Back Krejcikova to edge through outright, or take at least a set inside an accumulator.
