The 28-year-old is enduring as poor a season on tour as last year’s was remarkable but a three-set victory over Lorenzo Sonego on Tuesday is a strong result to face Hugo Gaston with here. World number 58 Gaston was in control against the sixth seed Nikoloz Basilashvili before the Georgian retired from their second set and he has been the player in far better form, especially over the summer with results over the likes of Alex de Minaur and Jenson Brooksby.
