23-year-old Francisco Cerundolo will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 27th next Monday after a stunning straight-sets victory over the second seed Andrey Rublev. The Argentine is riding a seven-match winning streak after claiming his maiden ATP title at the Bastad Open on Sunday, defeating Aslan Karatsev in the quarter-finals a week to the day of this rematch at the same stage. World number 37 Karatsev is coming back into the kind of form that saw him an established top 20 player but he took some time getting going on Thursday, coming back from a set down to beat Daniel Elahi Galan. Cerundolo’s momentum is something to behold right now, though, and a straight-sets victory over Karatsev last week coupled with his performance against the world number eight suggests a similar outcome here.
