World number 14 Cam Norrie was forced to pull out of the Japan Open earlier this month after contracting covid-19 and it remains to be seen how he recovers from the illness. We have already seen the likes of Ugo Humbert, David Goffin and Anett Kontaveit suffer the long-term effects of covid-19 but in the same breath the likes of Roberto Bautista Agut and Mateo Berrettini have come back fairly strongly after their cases to suggest it is something of a lottery. That makes this match well worth keeping away from an accumulator as Norrie takes on an out-of-sorts Aslan Karatsev, who made it 17-26 for his season with a straight-sets victory over Lukas Rosol on Monday. The Russian started 2022 off by winning the third ATP title of his career in Sydney but he has struggled to find any sort of consistency since. Norrie’s athleticism is his biggest weapon and contracting covid could have dire, as of yet unforeseen effects on his game. Back the Brit to win at least a set and leave the winner up to chance.
