THE PREDICTION

World number six Aryna Sabalenka needs to find her world-class serve again, and fast, after what has been a concerning season so far for the 24-year-old. Sabalenka has likely served more than twice as many double faults as aces in 2022, with 43 double faults across two matches last week in San Jose seeing her just edge past Caroline Dolehide before a three-set defeat to the eventual champion Daria Kasatkina. The Belarussian has the potential to dominate the hardcourt swing as much as Iga Swiatek does the clay but she could well be caught out here by Sara Sorribes Tormo, who will know to stay grounded and wait for opponent’s mistakes. World number 41 Sorribes Tormo edged past Claire Liu in three tight sets on Tuesday and she will need to improve to stun Sabalenka, who leads their head-to-head record 2-0. As with most of her matches this season, the result here lies almost totally on Sabalenka’s racket. Back the Belarussian to win at least a set or leave it alone altogether – and definitely keep it away from an accumulator.
