22-year-old Elena Rybakina set a career-high WTA world ranking of 12th earlier this season after finishing runner-up to Ash Barty at Adelaide 1. The Kazakh owns two WTA titles to her name on hardcourts but she has a huge ceiling with a game for all surfaces and she famously beat Serena Williams here last season on a run to the quarter-finals.
World number 76 Arantxa Rus reached the quarter-finals of the Rabat Open this week and she has found some success on the ITF circuit in recent months but this first tour-level meeting with Rybakina looks a pretty tall order.
