ANNA KALINSKAYA VS CLARA BUREL PREDICTION
World number 44 Clara Burel will receive a huge home advantage here on Monday as one of the better French hopefuls on clay at Roland-Garros.
The 23-year-old finished runner-up to Elina Svitolina at the Strasbourg Open last spring but she avenged that defeat with gusto last week, ousting the defending champion in three sets before falling foul of red-hot Danielle Collins. A first round victory over Karolina Pliskova in Strasbourg says Burel has a chance against world number 25 Anna Kalinskaya but the Russian is probably the slight favourite on overall form.
The 25-year-old proved herself a serious up-and-comer with a run to the quarter-finals at the Australian Open and but she has struggled to recover from an agonising defeat, from a set up, to Jasmine Paolini in the Dubai Masters final back in February after she had stunned Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals. Back Burel to earn at least a set in conditions that suit her better to leave the victor up to chance.
