Former world number two and two-time Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova fought well in the first set against Erika Andreeva on Tuesday before powering through for a second-set bagel. The 32-year-old reached the Cincinnati Open final two weeks ago before defeat to Caroline Garcia, but results over the likes of Ons Jabeur and Madison Keys make her a genuine title contender here at the US Open, where she has reached the quarter-finals on two occasions in 2015 and 2017. World number 47 Anhelina Kalinina played well to beat in-form Bernarda Pera in straight sets but this looks a serious step-up in quality for her on a hardcourt. The 25-year-old found the form of her career on the clay swing this spring but she has failed to win back-to-back matches in each of her last six tournaments. Kvitova is in form enough to win this first meeting in straight sets but take outright inside an accumulator.
