29th seed Anhelina Kalinina came back from a set down to beat Anna Bondar on Monday on her Wimbledon debut. The 25-year-old will face fellow Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko on Wednesday in a match likely to be charged full of emotion in front of a sympathetic crowd but both players will put friendships aside for the match itself. 33-year-old Tsurenko overcame British wildcard Jodie Burrage in straight sets on Monday but this will be a far bigger challenge against Kalinina, who is playing the best tennis of her career this season. Both players enjoyed runs to the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne International last week, with Tsurenko shocking Elena Rybakina and Kalinina taking out the top seed Maria Sakkari. It would not be a surprise to see three sets here in a first meeting between the two and that makes taking Kalinina to win at least one as the likelier of two very capable winners the sensible move.
