In many ways this all-Estonian clash should be the final of the Tallinn Open after both Anett Kontaveit and particularly Kaia Kanepi impressed this week. Top seed Kontaveit needed three sets to oust Ysaline Bonaventure on Friday but the 26-year-old will be glad of three wins in a row as she looks to rediscover her world-beating form from last season, lost after contracting covid-19 this spring. 37-year-old Kanepi will likely garner more of the home support as the underdog here but she has taken out the tougher foes, stunning Jelena Ostapenko in the first round and overcoming an excellent Karolina Muchova on Friday. Both players have dropped sets in two of their three matches each and taking this to see three sets looks a viable way to avoid picking a winner from their first meeting on tour. Otherwise, backing Kanepi to earn at least a set based on recent form looks the sensible way to lean.
