World number four Anett Kontaveit is through to her first tour final since the Qatar Masters in late February, where she finished runner-up to Iga Swiatek. It has taken the 26-year-old a long time to recover from contracting covid-19 on tour soon after that but a home final in Tallinn is the perfect place to welcome her return to top-level tennis. Beating fellow Estonian Kaia Kanepi in straight sets on Saturday is one of her best results this season given the circumstances and she will now be backed wholly by a partisan crowd at home against fellow former world number two Barbora Krejcikova. The Czech has also spent much of this season trying to get back to her best level after suffering an injury in the spring but she has taken out four tough players this week, including top seeds in Beatriz Haddad-Maia and most recently Belinda Bencic from a set down, to suggest she is on her way there.
The pair share a 1-1 head-to-head record with two hardcourt matches played in November last year and January of this season. Kontaveit claimed at least a set in both encounters and that looks the sensible way to lean here with home advantage behind the Estonian.
