35-year-old Andy Murray beat Christopher O’Connell in straight sets on Tuesday to get his grass season underway officially. The former world number one reached the semi-finals of the Surbiton Challenger last week before defeat in three to Denis Kudla, who in turn lost on Tuesday to the Brit’s next foe Alexander Bublik in straight sets. World number 42 Bublik enjoyed some solid results on grass last season with a victory over Grigor Dimitrov at Wimbledon standing out and the Kazakh won his first ATP title at the Montpellier Open back in February with a shock victory over Alexander Zverev. This is the third meeting between Bublik and Murray this season with a win apiece after Bublik won their most recent encounter at Indian Wells but Murray won their first encounter and only on grass back at Wimbledon in 2017. The sensible call is taking the Brit to win at least a set here but feasibly Murray should be able to edge through this the outright winner.
