World number nine Andrey Rublev is the top seed at the Gijon Open, receiving a bye to the round of 16, after an impressive turn at the Astana Open last week saw him lose to Stefanos Tsitsipas from a set up in the semi-finals. The 24-year-old has won three ATP titles this season but his most recent came at the Serbia Open back in April, with much of the second half of 2022 seeing hard-fought wins as much as concerning defeats. This is by no means a gimme against world number 70 Ilya Ivashka, who overcame Feliciano Lopez in three tight sets on Tuesday. The 28-year-old reached the round of 16 at the US Open last month, taking Jannik Sinner to five sets in a valiant defeat, and he beat Grigor Dimitrov more recently at the Sofia Open. Rublev has won both ft their previous meetings but three sets seem likelier than two here. Back the Russian to win at least one set as the likelier of two capable victors or risk the outright win.
