THE PREDICTION

World number eight Andrey Rublev is coming into the Canada Masters from a shock semi-final defeat to Yoshihito Nishioka at the Citi Open last week, after initially impressing in Washington. The 24-year-old has been a tough player to pin down this season with high highs, adding three more ATP titles to his career total of 11, and low lows – particularly his on-court behaviour towards himself that has on occasion depicted a person in need of a break. World number 39 Dan Evans has endured a largely disappointing season by his recent standards but he beat world number 13 Taylor Fritz last week in Washington for a promising result before also losing to Nishioka. The 32-year-old overcame in-form Filip Krajinovic in three sets on Tuesday for a solid start in Montreal but this is the third meeting with Rublev this season, both of which the Russian has won in straight sets to take their overall record t 3-2 in his favour. This could go down to the wire but backing Rublev to win outright seems a reasonable risk here.
