World number eight Andrey Rublev is riding a five-match winning streak after coming back from s set down to an impressive Jack Draper on Tuesday. The 24-year-old outlasted Novak Djokovic in the Serbia Open final last Sunday, handing the exhausted world number one a bagel in the third. Rublev has won three ATP titles already this season, adding to his career total of 11.
DANIEL EVANS
World number 36 Dan Evans pulled off one of the best results of his last two seasons in a thrilling three-set battle with Roberto Bautista Agut. The 31-year-old beat Novak Djokovic on clay last season at the Monte-Carlo Open on his way to the semi-finals, where he lost to eventual champion Stefanos Tsitsipas. Evans has won back-to-back matches on tour for the first time since a run to the quarter-finals of the Sydney Tennis Classic in January.
THE PREDICTION
This should be a proper thriller with the head-to-head record finely poised between Andrey Rublev and Dan Evans at two wins apiece. Rublev won their most recent encounter in straight sets at the Dubai Tennis Championships back in February on his way to the title there but Evans claimed their only meeting at Masters level in a three-set win at the 2020 Cincinnati Open. 20-year-old Jack Draper almost shocked the Russian in the first round but Rublev will be the better for it here, although Evans’ display against Bautista Agut on Wednesday would be more than enough to force another decider. The sensible move is taking Rublev to win at least a set here as the likelier winner but taking this match to see three sets could be the shrewd move.
