21-year-old Andres Martin stunned Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets on his ATP tour debut, jumping 162 places to world number 574 in the live rankings. The college player will be well-backed as a severe underdog once again in the round of 16 as he takes on former world number 22 Adrian Mannarino. The 34-year-old lost to Taro Daniel in qualifying last weekend but after replacing Nick Kyrgios as a lucky loser he took his opportunity with both hands to beat Peter Gojowczyk in straight sets. Mannarino is a confidence player who will be buoyed by that second chance taken well, with back-to-back upsets for Martin looking unlikely here. It is still probably worth taking a one-off on the American to win outright here considering Mannarino’s form this season but otherwise this match is best left be.
