World number 108 Ana Bogdan is enjoying some decent results on clay over the last couple of weeks, with back-to-back straight-set victories over Nuria Parrizas-Diaz and Katerina Siniakova taking her to a first tour quarter-final since April last season. The 29-year-old looks the slight favourite in this first meeting with Laura Pigossi on tour experience but 27-year-old Pigossi has beaten some tough foes on clay this week in Varvara Gracheva and Nadia Podoroska. The Brazilian will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 104th after reaching a second tour quarter-final this season and she can break the top 100 for a first time with a further win here. Pigossi finished runner-up to Tatjana Maria at the Bogota Open back in April and of the two players here she has enjoyed the better overall season. Leave this match well clear of an accumulator but leaning towards Pigossi to win outright in a one-off could be the shrewd move.
