World number 86 Katerina Siniakova beat fellow Czech Jesika Maleckova in straight sets on Monday, in keeping with some decent results on clay over the last few weeks. The 26-year-old has beaten the likes of Anhelina Kalinina, via retirement, and Daria Kasatkina over her last two tournaments and it took eventual Hamburg Open champion Bernarda Pera to oust her form the quarter-finals last Thursday. World number 108 Ana Bogdan beat Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in straight sets on Tuesday for a mini-upset over the seventh seed and this first tour-level meeting between the two, both better than their current rankings suggest, looks a tough call. Siniakova is perhaps the more comfortable on clay here and the Czech’s recent results give her an edge on paper. Taking Siniakova to win at least a set and leaving the winner up to chance looks a suitably cautious call.
