29-year-old Ana Bogdan is suddenly in some of the form of her career after spending several years in the wilderness, with a recent run to the semi-final of the Slovenia Open taking her up to a career-high WTA world ranking of 53rd. The Romanian finished runner-up to Caroline Garcia at the Poland Open in the previous WTA 250 tournament before that for some strong, consistent form at this level and she started the Emilia-Romagna Open in much the same vein with a commanding win over Laura Pigossi. Qualifier Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova is yet to drop a set this week after beating Reka-Luca Jani in the first round but Bogdan recently beat the likes of Ajla Tomljanovic and Beatriz Haddad-Maia on tour and she can be backed to take this outright.
