Former top 50 player Aljaz Bedene is riding a five-match losing streak into the US Open as he continues to struggle since returning from a long injury lay-off. The 33-year-old has won three tour-level matches this season, with a run to the third round of Roland-Garros ended by Novak Djokovic, but this looks a tough test against in-form Pedro Cachin. 27-year-old Cachin set a career-high ATP world ranking of 66th last week after winning a claycourt Challenger, his seventh Challenger final this season and fourth title. The Argentine beat Norbert Gombos in the first round of Roland-Garros back in June on his Grand Slam debut and he will be eager to emulate that on his US Open debut. Whether or not Cachin can acclimatise to hardcourt conditions well enough makes this a tougher call and Bedene is unlikely to fall easily. Back the Slovenian to win at least a set here or leave this head-scratcher alone.
