36-year-old veteran Pablo Cuevas made short work of Jenson Brooksby on Sunday, beating the American in straight sets. The former world number 19 owns six ATP titles on his favoured clay, most recently winning the Sao Paolo Open in 2017, but he has never made it past the third round at Roland-Garros. Current world number 195 Aljaz Bedene came into Paris on a protected ranking after a long injury lay-off but he performed well to beat Christopher O’Connell in four sets on Sunday. Uruguay’s Cuevas has beaten Bedene in both of their previous meetings, including in straight-sets in the first round of Roland-Garros back in 2018. This could go any which way with Bedene still rehabilitating but backing Cuevas to win at least two sets as the likelier victor seems a sensible move.
