World number 175 Aljaz Bedene entered the main draw at Roland-Garros on a protected ranking after a long injury lay-off stretching back to last season. The 32-year-old set a career-high ATP world ranking of 43rd back in 2018 and he is a solid all-courter capable of a solid run at Roland-Garros with two third-round exits here in his career. World number 124 Christopher O’Connell beat Albert Ramos-Vinolas at the Geneva Open this week for an impressive result on clay and the Aussie reached the third round of the Australian Open back in January in some of his best form. This could go either way with much of the outcome depending on how much Bedene can improve on his road to recovery but backing O’Connell to win at least a set, perhaps at least two, as the likelier winner seems reasonable here.
