World number 40 Alize Cornet is a popular player on tour and even more so at Roland-Garros, where the home crowd will back one of their own to the hilt. The 32-year-old produced a stunning victory over Simona Halep at the Australian Open back in January to reach the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time in a long career but she has struggled to find that intensity ever since. Cornet favours the clay, though, on which she has won most of her six WTA titles, including most recently at the Gstaad Open in 2018, and she should be too much for world number 97 Misaki Doi in this first meeting. 31-year-old Doi started the season off strongly with a run to the semi-finals of Adelaide 1 but since then she has won just one match on tour. Back Cornet to win outright here, although two should do it.
