THE PREDICTION
World number 76 Alison Van Uytvanck is far better than her current ranking suggests but she grabbed an encouraging straight-sets victory over rising star Linda Noskova on Tuesday. A three-set defeat to Caroline Garcia in Lyon last week suggested the Belgian was beginning to find some form on tour after a sorry last few months and she now looks the just-about likelier of two very capable quarter-finalists here against sixth seed Petra Martic. World number 34 Martic beat Marina Bassols Ribera in straight sets on Tuesday to get her Linz campaign underway and her three-set defeat to eventual Lyon champion Alycia Parks this time last week does not look so bad in retrospect. The Czech is a great all-courter but she will be desperate to return to her favoured clay soon, on which she claimed her second WTA title last season in Lausanne. Martic has beaten Van Uytvanck in straight sets in both of their previous encounters but back the Belgian to earn her first set here to leave the victor up to chance.
