THE LOWDOWN

ALIAKSANDRA SASNOVICH

World number 50 Aliaksandra Sasnovich came back from near defeat to stun Veronika Kudermetova in three sets on Monday, claiming her first win on clay this season in the process. The 28-year-old has been steadily improving over the last year or so, with a run to the round of 16 at Indian Wells last October standing out with victories over Simona Halep and recent US Open champion Emma Raducanu.

PAULA BADOSA

World number three Paula Badosa won her third WTA title at the Sydney Tennis Classic at the start of this season, backing up her first Masters title won at Indian Wells last October. The 24-year-old was stunned in the second round of last week’s Madrid Open by a vintage performance from Simona Halep but she has been in solid form across the last few tournaments without fully excelling. Badosa will be one of the tournament favourites at Roland-Garros later this month as one of the most complete clay-courters on tour.

THE PREDICTION

Aliaksandra Sasnovich never know when she is beaten and she was vastly impressive in coming back from almost-certain defeat against in-form Veronika Kudermetova on Monday. She will have a real shot at the upset if she plays with the same rugged determination but Paula Badosa has needed top quality opposition to oust her from tournaments all season long and backing the Spaniard to win through outright looks reasonable here.
