THE PREDICTION

World number 59 Alexander Shevchenko snapped a two-match losing streak with a tight three-setter over Dalibor Svrcina on Wednesday but he should improve after an early scare. The 23-year-old took Holger Rune to three sets before defeat at this stage of the Brisbane 500 at the start of the year and he finished runner-up to Ugo Humbert at the Metz Open final last November to look a strong dark horse for the latter stages here in Montpellier. World number 104 Gregoire Barrere has enjoyed some strong results here in recent seasons, beating the likes of Grigor Dimitrov and last year defending champion Alexander Bublik, but he survived a scare of his own on Tuesday with a comeback against compatriot Ugo Blanchet. Shevchenko has struggled to find his scintillating late 2023 form so far this season but a win here could see him do so. Back the Kazakh to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable quarter-finalists.

TIP: ALEXANDER SHEVCHENKO TO WIN A SET
