World number 36 Alexander Bublik is at his best in these conditions, claiming his maiden ATP title at the Rotterdam Open earlier this season and more recently finishing runner-up to Lorenzo Sonego at the Moselle Open – both on indoor hardcourts. In fact, the 25-year-old has either reached the final or lost to an eventual finalist in three of his last four tournaments and he looks the slight favourite here against world number 76 Mikael Ymer after beating him, on an indoor hardcourt, from a set down at last season’s Davis Cup Finals. 24-year-old Ymer has also been enjoying the tennis conditions in recent months, though, memorably beating five top 40 players en-route to the Citi Open final before finishing runner-up to Nick Kyrgios in August. The Swede reached the semi-finals of the Firenze Open before losing to J.J. Wolf, who had ousted Bublik a round earlier, and he was impressive despite falling in straight sets to Stefanos Tsitsipas last time out. The boisterous Paris Masters crowd will likely love both players’ styles and so three sets seem likely here as they back each player in turn. Take Bublik to earn at least one of them as the likelier of two very capable victors.
