THE PREDICTION
24-year-old Alex Molcan is up to a career-high ATP world ranking of 65th but he found a level higher than that on Thursday to beat the Grand Prix Hassan II’s top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in three sets. The Slovak has impressed on his favoured clay over the last year, with a run to the Serbia Open 2 final last summer eventually thwarted by Novak Djokovic. World number 42 Botic van de Zandschulp also beat Auger-Aliassime recently, however, in three sets at Indian Wells last month. The Dutchman has been one of the more surprising success stories of the last year or so with form that he first displayed on clay at Roland-Garros last summer, where he beat Hubert Hurkacz in five sets. Van de Zandschulp would be the clear favourite on a hardcourt but this first meeting between the two is not so clear on the clay. After his exploits against Auger-Aliassime it could be worth taking Molcan to win at least a set here as the just-about likelier of two capable winners.
